Kumbh Mela (India), Feb 2019
Kumbh Mela, listed on UNESCO, is the world’s largest religious festival held every 12 years. Here, I get the chance to witness the largest human gathering on earth that dwarfs all other events. It spreads over an area of 32 sq km (5% of our land area). 150 million devotees, more than Russia’s population, are expected to congregate during my trip. This year fair was held in Prayagraj (also known as Allahabad).
It was a two-month-long mass Hindu pilgrimage during which attendees bathe in the sacred River Ganga to wash off their sins. One of the most evoking sights is the appearance of the holy men known as "sadhus," who remain naked all year-round. They practice the most severe physical discipline and display their unusual practices in full glory. Don’t miss the pictures below !
I took sometime away from the bustling Kumbh Mela fair by ploughing the city streets. Always feel refreshed gathering some street shots.
